BACKGROUND
I have 20+yrs experience in Asia doing alternative strategies (i.e. non-delta1 non long-only) in fixed income, equity derivatives, and activist/catalyst/event-driven and long-short equity strategies with most of that time spent managing money. 

4 years in fixed income macro, 8 years running internal hedge fund and 4yrs investment banking at Citi in Japan, 3 years running an Asia multi-strat portfolio at a hedge fund, 4+yrs as an independent special situations analyst.

On 10 April 2020 after the close, two subsidiaries of <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/aeon-co-ltd" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:3:1" rel="noopener">Aeon Co Ltd (8267 JP)</a> based in the southernmost of Japan's four main islands - <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/maxvalu-kyushu-co-ltd" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:18842:1" rel="noopener">Maxvalu Kyushu (3171 JP)</a> and <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/aeon-kyushu-co-ltd" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:11573:1" rel="noopener">Aeon Kyushu (2653 JP)</a> announced plans to merge on 1 September 2020. The larger of the two - Aeon Kyushu - will be the surviving company.The ratio is set to 1.5 : 1 which is to say that MaxValu Kyushu shareholders will get 1.5 Aeon Kyushu shares for every 1 MaxValu Kyushu shares held. The vote is a foregone conclusion as Aeon itself owns 77% of MV Kyushu and 67.9% of Aeon Kyushu. There may be something to do here.
