Baptista Research is an independent financial research house focused on the U.S. markets. We provide equity research as well as credit research reports on the top-listed U.S. companies with most of our focus on technology, consumer goods and services, automobiles, industrials, oil and gas, pharma, and healthcare. Baptista Research is owned and managed by Ishan Majumdar, an ex-Venture Capitalist/ Investment Banker, a Chartered Accountant, and a Masters’ degree holder in Management from HEC Paris. Ishan has nearly a decade of experience in Mergers and Acquisitions, Leveraged Buyouts (LBOs), Venture Capital Investing, Corporate Strategy, and Valuation in front-office roles at the likes of BNP Paribas CIB, Credit Agricole CIB, Groupe Danone, and TIW Private Equity. He has worked on and closed multiple acquisition deals, leveraged buyouts, and start-up investment transactions.

After the bell on 5 December, Wheaton Precious Metals (WPM) announced that it had entered into a definitive Precious Metals Purchase Agreement (PMPA, or stream) with Allied Gold regarding the Kurmuk gold project in Ethiopia. Under the terms of the stream, WPM will pay US$175m to acquire 6.7% (subject to conditions – see below) of the payable gold produced from Kurmuk at 15% of the spot price of gold until 220koz has been delivered, at which point, the percentage will drop to 4.8%.

After the bell on 5 December, Wheaton Precious Metals (WPM) announced that it had entered into a definitive Precious Metals Purchase Agreement (PMPA, or stream) with Allied Gold regarding the Kurmuk gold project in Ethiopia. Wheaton Precious Metals’ (WPM’s) Q324 results, announced 7 November, showed a less than 1% variance for the quarter relative to our forecasts at the earnings level. Notably, however, three mines (Constancia, Stillwater and Voisey’s Bay) outperformed our expectations in terms of production but underperformed in terms of sales. This arguably sets up the potential for a rebound in Q4 when Wheaton’s streaming partners traditionally flush through sales ahead of the end of the financial year. Note that, at current metals prices, our EPS forecast for FY25 would be US$1.68 per share compared to the base case of US$1.23 per share.

Specifically, Vale’s announcement that Salobo produced 46.6kt of copper in Q3 implies gold production attributable to Wheaton of 65,019oz ±3,480oz (cf 54,750oz previously forecast). As a result, we have upgraded our forecast EPS for Q3 fractionally. However, we have upgraded our forecast for FY24 by a more material 9.9c/share, largely on account of the effect of higher precious metals prices on Q4 earnings. Note that if current metals prices persist, our FY25 EPS forecast will be US$1.72/share (cf the US$1.24/share shown below).
