<p>Allocations in Semiconductor stocks have seen tremendous growth over the past 3 years.  They account for $42bn out of the $1tr in assets in our Global fund universe, rank as the 3rd most widely held industry group and the 5th largest in terms of average portfolio weight.</p><p>Whilst growth has slowed over the past 6-months, we have not seen a flight from the sector despite the recent period of underperformance.  Instead, we see rotation within the sector.  On a stock level, <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/infineon-technologies-ag" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:21653:1" rel="noopener">Infineon Technologies Ag (IFX GR)</a> and <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/nitto-denko-corp" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:3666:1" rel="noopener">Nitto Denko (6988 JP)</a> captured ownership growth, against <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/realtek-semiconductor-corp" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:7326:1" rel="noopener">Realtek Semiconductor (2379 TT)</a> and <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/dialog-semiconductor-plc" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:1062:1" rel="noopener">Dialog Semiconductor (DLG GY)</a> that saw ownership levels decline.</p><p><a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/taiwan-semiconductor-manufacturing-company" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:11230:1" rel="noopener">TSMC (2330 TT)</a> has established itself as the industry leader in recent years.  It is currently held by 46% of the global managers in our analysis, well ahead of the 2nd tier, led by <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/texas-instruments-inc" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:18804:1" rel="noopener">Texas Instruments (TXN US)</a> , <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/intel-corp" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:16764:1" rel="noopener">Intel Corp (INTC US)</a> and <a href="https://www.smartkarma.com/entities/nvidia-corp" target="_blank" data-smartkarma-citation="entities:5891:1" rel="noopener">NVIDIA Corp (NVDA US)</a> .</p><p>And whilst active global fund ownership levels are near their highest levels on record, allocations remain well behind the larger industry groups of Packaged Software and Internet Software/Services.  </p><p><em>Taken from our Global Fund Research, covering 378 active Global strategies with combined AUM of $1tr.</em></p>

<p><strong><em>*Very Solid 1Q21: </em></strong>Yuanta Financial Holding (2885.TT) [Yuanta] reported 1Q21 results of NTD 9.4 bn, increasing NTD 4.9 bn (107.5%) linked quarter. Much of Yuanta’s linked quarter growth can be attributed to strong net interest income growth from both a margin loan and bank loan balance increases; a significant reduction in loss provisioning; and net fee improvement on the back of an ADTV increase on the TAIEX; and</p><p><strong><em>*Hidden Yuanta Earnings At Bank:</em></strong> At 21% of Yuanta’s bottom-line, Yunata Bank posted strong core operating results as well – NTD 2.0 bn, increasing NTD 731 mn or 59.2% linked quarter. Reserve cover of NPLs is extraordinary and the best we’ve seen in Asia thus far at 12.1x. By our calculation, Yuanta Bank has over reserved and can release upward of NTD 10.5 bn – representing over one quarter of Yuanta’s quarterly bottom-line.</p>

US markets continued to fall for the third straight day, with S&amp;P ending lower by 0.3% and Nasdaq marginally lower by 0.03%. While the markets opened with a sell-off, they cut losses before close led by chip-stocks with AMD up 2.4%, TSMC and Qualcomm up 1.4%. The Fed in its policy meeting gave indications that members were ready to think about talking about tapering if growth continued to meet the goals of the committee. European equity indices closed lower – FTSE was down 1.2%, DAX was down 1.8% and CAC slipped 1.4%. US 10Y Treasury yields climbed slightly to close at 1.67%. Crude fell ~3% as stockpiles increased amid lower demand as Covid-19 cases rose. The US IG CDS spreads were 0.4bp wider and HY spreads were 2.2bp wider. EU main spreads were 0.8bp wider and crossover spreads widened 4.8bp. Asian equities have started lower 0.4% with Asia ex-Japan CDS spreads tightening 0.7bp .
