Equity Bottom-Up

Sysmex stock is up 3.4x since the end of 2012 (36% price CAGR) when easing by the BOJ started a strong JPY depreciation trend, helping the company double overseas sales and drive OPM from 15.0% in FY2013 to 22.5% in FY2016.With overseas sales having peaked in 4QFY2016 and fallen to just above 3QFY2015 levels in 2QFY2017, we are concerned that the company's 32x PE and 24x EV/OP multiples are looking extremely rich. With the company having successfully exploited global opportunities in the hematology diagnostics space in which it is so strong, the hurdles for both revenue expansion and operating margin accretion are now that much higher.If profit growth slows from 30% a year to 10% a year (cf. a roughly 6% industry topline growth rate), would 24x PE and 18x EV/OP (22% downside potential) really be too cheap?
