CM Research is an independent research house based in London, England. We provide global thematic research in the Technology, Media and Telecoms (TMT) sectors. 

Our focus is on disruptive technologies: how will they unfold; which industries will be impacted; and who will be the ultimate winners and losers. 

Our aim is to help investors predict share prices and corporate executives stay one step ahead of the technology trends that are shaping their industry. 

We research technology investment themes in detail and then feed the results into a scorecard system to quantify the impact of several conflicting themes on individual stocks. 

Recent themes covered include internet TV, the Internet of Things, Big Data, Mobile payments, crowdfunding, artificial intelligence, the cloud, software defined networking and Generation Hashtag.

We cover the top 500 global TMT stocks by market capitalisation and several technology start-ups and pre-IPO companies too. 

In 2015, CM Research analysts outperformed the Bloomberg Benchmark Analyst Index - which measures how good analysts are at predicting stock prices - by 7.1%.

Or where your home thermostat automatically lowers the temperature when you leave the house and raises it the moment you return. Or where a patient can be forewarned of an imminent heart attack by his smartphone without any kind of medical examination by a doctor.The “Internet of Things” (IoT) refers to a world where aircraft engines, fridges, thermostats and medical devices are connected to the internet with a view to automating more of our lives, saving energy or making industrial processes run more efficiently.We are very early in this technology cycle. As yet, there are no common standards, so it is difficult to predict winners and losers. However, investors need to understand the Internet of Things because it will soon morph into a mega theme. Our analysis offers a framework in which to look at the Internet of Things, summarises the important trends and identifies the key players.

On Feb 13th, 2016, "Make in India" week was flagged off in Mumbai. 5000 delegates from 190 companies based in 60 countries participated in the event and it was nothing short of a carnival celebrating the prospects of a brighter future for India’s manufacturing industry. This was the first of many events planned for Narendra Modi's flagship Make in India campaign launched in 2014. The initiative hopes to attract capital and technological investment to India and make it the top destination globally for foreign direct investment. Make in India is an exciting venture. In the following insight, I have given an overview of the initiative and stated some of the good things and some of the gaps around it. I am going to present more analysis as I discover more in the coming few days. Look out for the forks!

Over the past few years and more especially since the Great Financial Crisis (GFC), investors have become more focused on short-term market movements and real-time returns and have consequently neglected the analysis of the underlying structural themes that underpin longer term performance.

More specifically we believe that the evolution of governance-based relationships between investors, controlling shareholders, labour and the state is one of the primary determinants of both relative and absolute performance between individual equity markets.

Governance, Valuations and the Crisis of State Capitalism

Our bearish outlook for 2016 predicated on the rising risk of a “sudden stop” for China and uncontrolled FX depreciation across EM is unfortunately starting to play out; although markets currently feel very oversold and could rally sharply over the short term, we believe that there is further downside for EM equities in absolute and relative terms over the remainder of the year.
