Technical Analysis

EURO STOXX 50 Price EUR / Technical Analysis

European banks (SX7E) were flagged as a high conviction short at the 100 zone before the break of macro rising wedge support. Fresh sell resistance at 93, targets 89 again with 86 the primary objective.This is part of our weak yield/bank/crowded trade play that is unfolding in the US to a lesser degree.Duration rising wedge pattern breaks along with MACD triangulation/bear divergence are one of the most powerful and high conviction set ups. This is a classic change in trend inflection.We still have short conviction but are well into phase II of the decline.

European banks (SX7E) were flagged as a high conviction short at the 100 zone before the break of macro rising wedge support. Global equities (MSCI ACWI, ACWI ex-US, and EAFE) remain bullish with their uptrends intact, and the MSCI Emerging Markets index continues to hold above major support at $52 on the EEM-US. Additionally, Europe’s STOXX 50 and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng are on the cusp of short-term breakouts, while the major indexes in China (Shanghai Composite &amp; CSI 300) are currently breaking above short-term resistance... see chart below. Considering the absence of breakdowns and the fact that market dynamics remain largely positive, our overall constructive outlook remains appropriate.

FTSE China A50 Index / Technical Analysis

SPX 4,180 is pivot support for the US cycle and risk inflections in Europe and Asia.  Backing off of 4,205 projection with risk of profit taking ahead of the long weekend is the game plan. RTY and DJI favored shorts with NDX the stronger horse to buy a pullback.A 50 long from 16,500 and add call above 17,700 is playing out nicely and we outlined dip support ahead of reaching for the 19,000 target.Asia short conviction in Japan, Taiwan and Korea.Europe is teetering at DAX and SX5E dual highs for a break or harder pullback sequence with the later favored. DAX is already showing signs of a top failure and typically leads the Eurostoxx 50. MIB is our focus short at 25k. European banks are the sleeper short for a crowded positioning shakeout.
